Letter to the Editor: Voter ID laws fair, should be required

I believe that it is fair to require an ID to vote. It would not only be the poor people who have to show the ID, it is everyone.

When it comes to pricing, I looked up the pricing of more than a dozen states on the DMV website, and the pricing ranges from $8.50 (the low in Ohio), to $26 (the high in California). That is not an unreasonable price to be able to provide proof of your citizenship. For those who really can’t afford it, there are ways for the public and government to go about providing the few dollars it would take to provide the money for the fee of the ID for those who wish to vote.

I would prefer the right to vote being limited to those citizens who are legal, who also pay taxes, who also contribute to our society in a positive manner.

The leaders of our country are responsible for the protection of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to the legal people of this country first. After that, then we work to help the world. I am fine with other citizens voting differently than I do. I am not okay with illegal immigrants having the right to put into office those who have power to make decisions for our country that will affect me more than it affects them.

Requiring ID to vote ensures that my right to vote is legitimate and not nullified by someone who has not earned that right in this country.
