This year’s basketball season has had many ups and downs. From losing players to having heartbreaking losses to winning in the final minutes of the game, it is hard to believe both seasons will soon come to an end.

The Cowgirls will close out their conference season Wednesday heading across the state line to face the Colorado State Rams in the Border War, with the match-up scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. This will be the 88th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 45-42.

“I don’t care that the game is on a school night,” said Hadley Kumer, junior political science student. “I’m going all out for the game because the girls could use all the fan support they can get. Plus beating CSU on their home court is always the ego boost Wyoming needs.”

The Cowgirls, having a 22-6 overall record and 11-4 in the Mountain West, will face the Lady Rams, who rank 10-17 overall and 6-8 in the MW. The last time the two teams played against one another, the Cowgirls took home the win with a final score of 82-67.

“I think everyone has been really impressed with how the girls’ team has competed this season,” said senior physiology student Patrick Simon. “We all anticipated the Cowboy’s to take home a title this year but I think based on the Cowgirl’s recent performance, that’s definitely not the case.”

The team is coming off a recent win of 75-50 on its home turf against the New Mexico Lobos. Four of the five starters are reported to be averaging double-figures including Senior Chaundra Sewell. Sewell averages approximately 14.9 points each game and leads the league with rebounds with 9.5 per game. Sophomore Kayla Woodward follows close behind averaging 14.1 points and 6.3 rebounds while senior Kaitlyn Mileto adds 12.7 points. Senior Ashley Sickles also adds 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds to the team.

The MW reports show Wyoming is first in the league in scoring offense, rebounding margin and assists. They are reported to being shooting 717-1588 (.452) from the field and 179-473 (.379) from beyond the arc which are also reported to be ranking first in the league. For the MW games, the Cowgirls are first in scoring offense, assists and field goal percentage, and second in free throw percentage and rebounding margin.

The Cowgirls hope to continue their streak defeating the Rams then continue on in the MW Tournament in Las Vegas.
