UW golf competes in Arizona

The University of Wyoming golf teams  have had a busy spring season. The men’s golf team spent Thursday- Saturday of its spring break in Goodyear, Ariz. to play in the Denver Desert Shootout after competing in the Arizona National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. March 16-17.

A final release from the Arizona National Tournament stated that senior Clinton Boutelle shot a final round 75 (+3) to finish the tournament in 64th place of the 92-man field with a 54-hole score of 226 (+10).

Sophomore P.J. Thomas shot the best round of the tournament for the Pokes, carding a final round 72 (E) to finish tied for 73rd place with a three-round score of 229 (+13). This marked Thomas’ best round of the season. The Cowboys ended the tournament in 16th place of the 16-team field with a time score of 919 (+55). They shot a final round 305 (+17).

At the Denver Desert Shootout, the Cowboys finished 15th out of 16 teams. They closed the event with their second-consecutive round of 297 (+13) to finish with a three round team score of 887 (+35). The Pokes three-round score of 887 (+35) is their best team score of the spring season. Boutelle recorded the Cowboys best finish tying for 40th place of the 96-man field with a 54-hole total of 218 (+5).

The Cowgirls competed in the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. on March 15-16 and just came off the tee in the BYU Entrada Classic in Saint George, Utah, March 18-19.

The team was led by senior Dana Zamprelli and sophomore Samantha Stancato, who both fired season lows of 74 (+2). Their achievement brought the Cowgirls to a 15th place finish at 927 (+73), as No. 16 Texas Tech topped the 15-team field at 858 (-6). Juniors Stacey Blunt and Emily Wood tied for 16th, which led the University of Wyoming women’s golf team to a seventh-place finish during the final round a the BYU Entrada Classic. The Cowgirls carded a 309 (+21) for the fifth-lowest total during the third round and tallied a 923 (+68) in the 15-team field.

The Cowgirls are expected to head off to SDSU Farms Invitational on March 31-April 2 in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. while the Cowboys hit the tee in Scottsdale, Ariz., to host the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Talking Stick North Course April 8-9.
