The Cowgirl golf team finished 16th at the CSU Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic held this past week in Fort Collins, Colo.

“We played really good golf (Tuesday),” Head Coach Josey Stender said in a press release.  “We battled some weather on the most difficult stretch of the golf course, which made it difficult for our players to score to their potential.”

Leading the way for Wyoming was Junior Kathleen Kershisnik who finished in a tie for 60th while carding a three-round score of 234 (18-over).

Kershisnik shot matching rounds of 74 (2-over) in her first two rounds, but really struggled in her closing round firing an 86 (14-over).

Teammates Emily Woodward, a junior, and Samantha Stancato, a senior, tied for second on the team and sixth in the field with scores of 236 (20-over).

Woodward’s opening round was her low for the tournament as she shot a 77 (5-over). She followed that performance up with a second round 80 (8-over) before finally firing a 79 (7-over) in her third round.

Stancato, like Woodward, also shot an opening round 77 (5-over).  The junior carded an 83 (11-over) in her second round, but finished the third round with her low round of the tournament scoring a 76 (4-over).

Tying for 80th, while playing as an individual, for the Cowgirls was Sophomore Taylor Dorans.  She was very consistent through the tournament, firing rounds of 80 (8-over), 79 (7-over) and an 82 (10-over) in route to a three-round score of 241 (25-over).

Placing fourth and coming in 83rd for the tournament with a score of 243 (27-over) was Sophomore Mackenzie Barrie.  She shot her highest score of 84 in her opening round but then backed that up with scores of 82 in the second round and a final round score of 77 (5-over).

Rounding out the scorers for Wyoming was Redshirt Freshman Gabrielle Gibson who shot a 249 (33-over).  She steadily improved each round by firing a first round score of 85 (13-over) followed by a second round score of 83 (11-over) and then closing the tournament with an 81 (9-over).

San Diego State won the invite easily with a team score of 870 (6-over). The second place team of UNLV was eight strokes behind the Aztecs carding a score of 878 (14-over).  Tying for third with matching scores of 881 (17-over) were the teams of Illinois and Colorado.

Taking home the individual crown was Junior Emma Henrikson of San Diego State with a score of 211 (5-under).  She did not card a round over par and had a second round score of 67 (5-under).  Right behind her, firing a three round score of 212 (4-under), was sophomore teammate Sirene Blair.  Tying for third with identical scores of 213 were two juniors, Alexis Keating of Colorado and Raychelle Santos of Gonzaga.

The Cowgirls take a couple weeks off before hosting the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate on September 28th and 29th in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Classic Club Golf Course in Palm Desert features an abundance of bunkers, both fairway and green side.  Water is also featured on many of the holes whether it is near the tee box or around the green, according to classicclubgolf.com.

“The next few weeks of practice will be valuable for us as we gear up to host our own tournament in California,” Stender said.
