Ghost Tours of Laramie City are back again for the 14th year, holding tours for several days leading up to Halloween.

The city of Laramie is known to have a rich history when it comes to old western times.

“I have lived in Laramie for many years now, and I remember visiting the Wyoming Territorial Prison and learning about the twisted history of Laramie. I could not help but wonder how many other people living in Laramie had no idea,” said Lynette Nelson. “That is when I decided to make Ghost Tours of Laramie City.” Lynette Nelson is the original founder of Ghost Tours. The Ghost Tours include documented stories of Laramie’s past that Lynette Nelson learned about while researching the early history of the town.

Each tour starts out going through a horse barn, which leads to a hayride through downtown Laramie. The end point of the tour is the Wyoming Territorial Prison, where the attendees are taken on a candlelit tour of the prison. Since there are several stops the tours end up being an hour and a half long.

“This has become a fairly popular event. We usually have about 1,200 people show up and they are not all from Laramie!” said Lynette Nelson. “We even get people who come up from Colorado to learn more about Laramie and its past.”

Ghost Tours are more than just tours that provide historical background.

“What was really cool was that there were workers dressed up in old western costumes, reenacting true stories of different events that happened in Laramie,” said junior business student Raleah Cisneros, co-chair of Wyogold Student Alumni Association.

Lynette Nelson said that certain “scares and frights” are included to give everyone a little spook on top of it all.

Ghost Tours of Laramie City was described as unique and different by many that have attended or been involved.

“I believe that this is an event that students would really enjoy. It is completely different from all of the average haunted houses we are all used to and it teaches the history of Laramie at the same time,” said the director of Ghost Tours Kristi Nelson “Of course it helps get into the Halloween spirit as well, since it is October.”

As of right now the Ghost Tours of Laramie City can only be caught during the month of October, although summer tours are in the works. Thriller fans can look forward to the month of October with Ghost Tours of Laramie City.
