Wyoming rounded out their recruiting class yesterday with the commitment of Morris Marshall from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla.

“Wyoming puts me in position to be successful not only in basketball but in life as well,” Marshall said.

Marshall is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard. He is currently playing in his second year for the Saints. Through seven games this year Marshall is averaging 18.7 points, 5.5 boards, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals.

He visited the University of Wyoming this past weekend. He toured the campus and attended the season-opener versus Northern Colorado.

“The arena is so much different than my Junior College gym,” Marshall said. “It was very impressive.”

He had dinner with head coach Larry Shyatt later that night and just two days later made his commitment to the Cowboys and Shyatt official.

“(Coach Shyatt) is a very humble guy,” Marshall said. “You cannot find a better guy than that.

The relationship between Marshall and coaches proved to be the difference. Larry Shyatt, assistant coaches Scott Duncan and Allen Edwards had all been in contact with Marshal during the recruitment process.

“Those coaches are great Xs and Os guys,” Santa Fe head coach Chris Mowry said. “They are also great people. They really care.”

Marshall was not heavily recruited out of high school or junior college. One reason he could have been over looked is because his junior college team has a very balanced scoring attack and his high school is known for football not basketball.

“Many teams missed out on him,” Mowry said.

Marshal brings a very diversified skill set to the floor. He is very versatile for his 6 foot 2 size.

“He can play with anybody athletically,” said Mowry. “He has great touch on the ball. “He has great court vision and is a pass first player. He is also a great rebounder for his position.”

Marshall will be counted on to be a leader once he gets to UW. With six graduating seniors and a majority of freshman he will look to play a major roll not only on the floor but off it as well.

“He is not the most vocal guy,” Mowry said. “But when he does talk he says the right things. He is comfortable being a quite leader.”

This rounds out the Cowboys recruiting class. The other players in this class included Austin Conway, Andrew Moemeka, Justin James and Jordan Naughton.
