Ways to keep your New Year’s resolutions on track

It is that time of year again, January! Of course with classes starting late this semester, we are nearing the end of the first chapter of 2015. January brings so much hope for a new year and one way we achieve that hope, are New Year’s resolutions.

From experience, it can be difficult to expand your new habits past January. Although after my successful resolution this past year, I have a few tips up my sleeve that may be helpful in making sure 2015 is your year.

Everyone has very different resolutions, so one broad way we can keep every goal in mind is to write it down. After you write those bad boys down, frame it or put it up on your bathroom mirror. This way you can see your goals on a daily basis and you are constantly being reminded of them.

Year after year, I continued to have a long list of resolutions, and year after year I failed. In 2014 I vowed to one resolution, to go to the gym and get toned. Now January 2015, I have a six pack of abs, toned arms and an amazing bum!

What I am getting at, is pick one resolution and stick with it! This will ensure that you have a one track mind when it comes to your goals, and you won’t be setting yourself up for failure.

Like I said, there are so many great resolutions out there. Many are wanting to change their workout habits. If you are starting to get lazy about going to the gym, put on your gym clothes and then decide if you are going to go. But don’t decide until you are fully dressed!

If you vowed to eat healthier, make sure you are keeping junk food out of the house! When you are bored, back away from the fridge. Go paint your nails, rearrange your room. Whatever you do stay away from the kitchen!

If you are anything like me, I decided I want to read more. Being an English major I love to read, although my class reading gets in the way a majority of the time. So one day of the week I have been going to a book store. I rummage the shelves for a great read, I grab myself a cup of coffee and I find a corner to nestle into. This is a relaxing technique and you will find yourself hours into a good book.

One good resolution I have heard this year is to clean more often. This is a fantastic habit to get into. I’ve found myself cleaning my whole house every Sunday. It’s so relaxing knowing I have a clean house for the week to come.

Whatever your resolutions are I hope they are all continuing strong. The biggest thing to remember is not to get discouraged. It is good and human to take a break day every once in a while. Remember these resolutions are about you bettering yourself.

So what are some of your unique New Year’s resolutions for the 2015 year?
