Wyoming track and field hit the ground running, setting the pace to their outdoor campaign in the Jerry Quiller Classic Saturday in Boulder.

Freshman Ricky Faure made a splash following his record-breaking 800-meter dash during the indoor season Saturday. Faure ran the 800 ranking among the top 10 fastest times in school history, placing first at the meet.

Cowgirl sophomore Megan Brunette also took record time Saturday in the 10,000-meter dash. Brunette (38:33.31) was runner-up to unattached runner, Kristen Zaitz (34:50.16), but also ranked a top 10 fastest time in school history.

“We are in the hardest training phase of our season right now, so when you look through the results you don’t see anything too impressive, but our kids went out there and took advantage of nice weather and got a competition in,” UW head coach Bryan Berryhill told gowyo.com.

On the Cowgirls track, sophomore Cowgirl Kerry White took first place for Wyoming in the 800 meter run when she ran 2:12.89, beating her CU opponent. In the 400 meter hurdles, Erin Kirby, (1:02.51), also took first place for UW.

Cowgirls senior Audrey West was .08 seconds shy of first place in the 100-meter dash. West (12.38) was outbid by CSU’s Abby Simpson (12.30).

In 100-meter hurdles, Wyoming’s sophomore Mikalah Skates (14.46) took second.

Cowgirls junior McKenzie Brogan was edged out by CU, who took first and second in the 400-meter dash. Brogan at 57.10 took third.

Junior Amos Bowen took first for the Cowboys in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase at 9:32.54 over CU’s Adam Peterman (9:36.54) and Joe Holvey (9:58.64).

Rounding at second, Jordan Charles ran 14.47 in the 110 meter hurdles, falling short to Jamras Rittidet of Thailand at 14.04. Charles then redeemed himself in the 400-meter hurdles, taking first place.

In the field events, Wyoming dominated the women’s long jump taking first and second place, West at first (17-08.00) and freshman Rebecca Harris at second (17-04.00).

Wyoming also placed first and third in the discus throw, with freshman Hannah Carr at first and junior Madison Seaman at third.

In the women’s hammer throw, Shreese Daniels placed second.

In the triple jump, Wyoming took the second and third slot, with sophomore Shana Wilcoxson (37-02.50) and freshman Dayanera Tiberman (36-11.75).

There was a three-way-tie in the long jump for third place between unattached Alyssa Frank, Cowgirl junior Sabina Sandberg and Rajon O’Quinn of CU all at 5-06.00

The men’s field also saw its share of victories as Wyoming’s junior Scott Carter brought home first in the triple jump and third in the long jump.

Senior Paul Thomas placed second in the discus throw and junior Tyler Anderson placed third in the hammer throw to tie up the Jerry Quiller Classic and promising showcase for Wyoming’s track and field.

“Our kids competed well after training hard the last few weeks and we can’t always get outside during this time of year in this region, so it was a good start to the outdoor season,” coach Bryan Berryhill said.

Wyoming will return to action in Fort Collins on March 28 at the Fum McGraw Triangular.
