The Cowgirl’s landed a 10th place finish at the BYU Entrada Classic

This past week Wyoming’s womens golf team finished 10th out of fifteen at the BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah.

The Pokes rendered two sophomores that helped lead them to their 10th place finish. These sophomores were Mackenzie Barrie and Taylor Dorans. Wyoming managed to score the 5th lowest score in the 1st round of competition, which coincidentally was there lowest score of the season.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team this week,” head coach Josey Stender said. “They have really embraced a more confident style of play and preparation. To have the fifth lowest score today in a nationally competitive field is a testament to their hard work and talent.”

Barrie tied for 30th at the tournament after three rounds. Barrie scored a 78 in the first round putting her 6 over par. In the second round she was able to shave off two strokes ending with a score of 4 over par. Mackenzie concluded the tournament with an impressive 1 over par in the third round to help settle the pokes into their 10th place position. These three scores gave Barrie a total of 227, 11 over par.

Fellow sophomore Dorans was right behind Barrie with her 3 scores consisting of 77, 76 and 76 giving her a total of 229, 13 over par. These three stellar scores tied Dorans for 34th. Behind Dorans was senior Samantha Stancato, who scored a 76 in the first round, 80 in the second and another 76 to conclude the third round. Samantha ended with a total of 232 strokes, 16 over par tying for the 46th position.

Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Gibson showed promise and potential by scoring the second lowest round for the Pokes in the third round with a score of 74, two over par. Gibson ended with a score of 234 with a first round score of 83 and a second round score of 77. Although Gibson’s first two scores were fairly high, she was able to close well and secured a 49th place finish with her great third round score of two over par.

Kathleen Kershisnik finished for the Cowgirls placing 72nd overall in the tournament with scores of 79, 85 and 83. The pokes also brought with them Junior Emily Woodward who entered the tournament as an individual. Despite competing as an individual Woodward showed that she could compete with the stiff competition finishing the tournament with a score of 240. With this score Emily actually placed above Kershisnik landing her at the 62nd spot.

The Cowgirls return to the green this weekend at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tuscan, Arizona.
