Movie theater construction on track

Construction of a new movie theater on Grand Avenue east of campus is going well, and city planners anticipate it will be finished before the UW fall semester begins.

Derek Teini, the city of Laramie’s senior planner, said the construction has not been hindered by recent snowfall in Laramie.

“Generally the construction season in Laramie has opened up or has started a lot earlier just because of the beautiful weather we’ve had since February, really,” Teini said. “That includes home building, commercial construction, a little bit of everything.”

Teini said typically the snow and cold temperatures make construction difficult, and construction crews are usually working inside or working on smaller projects.

“It’s probably on the other side, where the weather has probably been helpful,” Teini said.

Mathew Idema, site consultant for Kimley-Horn Engineers assigned to the project, said the theater would have 10 screens when completed, the largest having enough seating for 127 people.

“There will be enough seating for 661 people total in the theater when it is complete,” Idema said.

Idema said most of the work is focusing on getting the interior completed and squared away.

Construction is moving along on a new movie theatre for Laramie north of Chili's. The recent snowstorms have hindered construction on April 22, 2015 and have possibly prolonged the process of completion.
