The men’s swimming and dive team took on the Utah Utes in Green River Wyoming on Saturday and were able to pull out a big win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys defeated the 14th ranked Ute’s 173-127 in convincing fashion and were able to claim 10 of the available 16 events.

This win is a huge season booster for the team, as they were not expected to beat Utah in such convincing fashion.

“We had a couple days off, so I was a little worried coming into this meet after the Purdue Invitational,” head coach Tom Johnson said. “I thought we competed very well from the start. I’m thrilled to walk out of here with a win, we knew Utah would be ready to compete and give us a fight.”

UW was also able to put up some dominating performances in the 50-meter free, the Pokes placed three swimmers in the top 3. Bryce Carter, Kyle White and David Murphy made that possible placing in the order listed here.

Bryce Carter was a key performer in this meet and in addition to winning the 50 free, was able to win the 100-meter free and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley team.

Gabriel Rooker was also an important component in the Cowboys victory and was able to snag two victories for the Cowboys in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Rooker was also a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay, the final event of the meet and the final Cowboy win.

Another impressive performance against the Utes came from Austin Rettinghouse. He was able to win the three-meter dive with a season high score and came in second in the meter dive.

But the Cowboys weren’t the only ones who took notice of the outstanding performances put up against the Utes.

Hot off the tails of this latest meet, the Western Athletic Conference named Austin Rettinghouse as their diver of the week.

This prestigious award is not the first in Rettinghouse’s career. He was awarded this title the first time almost a year ago as a freshman in January.

The Cowboys are far from done for the season and still have some solid competition ahead of them in their next meet when they take on Denver in the Mile High City.
