Cowboys finish in tie for 7th

Junior Glenn Workman carded a two-under 70 on the final day of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. Workman’s three-day total of 219 (+3) was matched by senior Ryan Wallen in a tie for 31st on the individual leaderboard.

Wallen shot a five-under 67 on the second day of competition, which put him in a tie for 14th after 36 holes. Junior Aaron Lickteig also went under par on day two, carding a one-under 71.

“I’m pleased with how we played today and finished out the tournament,” UW head coach Joe Jensen said. “Our guys got to play with some of the top golfers in the country and we got some really valuable experience early in the spring season. I’d like to thank the staff at the Classic Club for putting on such a great tournament once again.”

Lickteig and classmate Drew McCullough finished the tournament with scores of 226 (+10), while sophomore John Murdock wasn’t far behind with a score of 227 (+11).

Playing as individuals, redshirt freshman Dan Starzinski also carded a 227, while junior Quintin Pope recorded a 235 (+19). Redshirt sophomore Cole Bundy carded a 248 (+32) for the event.

The second day was filled with action, as multiple golfers made runs at the course record of 62, with Colorado’s Jeremy Paul recording the low score of 64 (-8), which helped him tie for third. Colorado also shot the lowest team score in men’s Division 1 this season, with a score of 266 (-22).

“We played pretty well, and overall we saw some really impressive performances today. There were lots of birdies today which is fun to see,” Jensen said of the second day.

Oregon’s Norman Xiong and Wyndham Clark tied for first with a score of 205 (-11) each, which helped the Ducks take home the team title finishing with a total score of 838 (-26). Colorado finished second, posting 847 (-17), followed by Texas Tech with an 850 (-14) in third. Kansas and TCU tied for fourth by posting an 862 (-2). The top five teams were the only teams to finish under par for the tournament.

North Carolina Willimgton shot a 873 (+9) to take sixth, while Wyoming and Little Rock tied for seventh with a score of 882 (+18). Cal State Northridge shot a 883 (+19) to take ninth, and Nebraska and Cal State Fullerton rounded out the top 10 with a score of 889 (+25).
