Cowboy’s hockey loses in overtime to Falcons

Wyoming Cowboys Men Hockey teams lost in overtime to the Air Force Academy Falcons 2-3 on Oct. 7.

The Cowboys traveled down to Colorado Springs, Colorado to face off against the Falcons.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first period of Play.

In the second period, Air Force scored with 11:24 on the clock allowing the Falcons to gain a 0-1 lead over Wyoming with a score by Russell Ellis thanks to assists by AJ Beckwith and Douglas Gutierrez.

Two minutes later Wyoming answered back with an unassisted goal by Brady Griffin tying the score at 1-1.

With 16:07 gone by in the period, Wyoming scored a goal to take the lead 2-1. Brandon Dewar scored the goal with an assist from Ryan Bear.

The Cowboys entered the third period with a 2-1 lead.

Just over halfway through the third period Air Force tied the game back up thanks to a goal by Gutierrez.

Neither team was able to pull out the victory in regulation and the game went into overtime.

Just three minutes into overtime and Air Force scored the winning goal thanks to Beckwith. Ryyan Reule and Ellis were on the assist.

Cowboys lost the game by a score of 2-3.

Air Force managed to put up 55 shots in the game with Wyoming goalkeeper Samual Mallory being able to stop 52 of them.

Wyoming was able to put up 26 shots of their own, scoring on two of them.

Air Force ended the night with six penalties for 12 minutes. Wyoming committed nine penalties for 26 minutes.

Cowboys will be at University of Denver on Oct. 13 but will be back home on Oct. 14 to face off against the University of Northern Colorado. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Laramie Ice and Events Center.
