Ticket sales expected to rise for Dan & Shay

7220 Entertainment has booked the hit country duo Dan & Shay to grace the University of Wyoming with their music.

With current ticket sales just over 300 tickets, the student-led Large Scale Events committee of 7220 Entertainment is working hard to motivate students to buy tickets for the upcoming event and reach their goal of selling 1,500 tickets.

“We typically see a spike in the first week or two because of the people who are fans and want the best seats. Then it slows down a little bit and picks back up as it gets closer to the event,” the supervisor of the committee, Jake Ostrow, said.

Dan & Shay was announced nearly a month earlier than a typical show would be throughout the school year. Typically, a Large Scale show is announced about a month or so before the show, but since the duo was booked before the semester started, there was more time to market and boost ticket sales.

“Students procrastinate a lot. So, they don‘t really see a huge necessity to buy their tickets right away. But I do think sales with go up as we get closer to the show,” the marketing intern for the committee, Hannah Ellis, said.

Even though it may seem that sales are low a month before the show, the committee firmly stands behind the sales.

“We are ahead of the game of where we need to be. We announced early because we wanted to get this show out to the public and had it booked early,” Ostrow said.

7220 Entertainment has also reached out to multiple campuses around Wyoming and Colorado including Laramie County Community College, WyoTech, Sheridan College, Western Wyoming Community College, Casper College and Colorado State University offering student discounts on tickets hoping to bring in a more community environment to the show.

“Dan & Shay was perfectly routed through Laramie and was within our budget, which let us lessen the prices of tickets for students and the public,” the Large Scale Events coordinator, Julie Curtie, said.

Dan & Shay will be the first country artists 7220 Entertainment has brought since 2015. The last country artist 7220 Entertainment brought to the stage of the A&S Auditorium was Brett Eldredge over two years ago. So, it seemed like the perfect time since the Cowboy Kickoff concert was not held this fall.

“When only student tickets are on sale, we really aim to market that students could get the best seats right when the tickets go on sale,” Ellis says.

The country duo is best known for their hit single “From The Ground Up” released in February 2016. The single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart along with their two most recent singles, “Nothin’ Like You” and “How Not To.”

Since then, they have released two full-length albums, Where It All Began and Obsessed, and have since been nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.

The duo is currently on their “Obsessed” tour and will be in Laramie on Nov. 16, at 8:00 p.m., at the Arts and Science Auditorium.
