Devin Jones works to build a healthier lifestyle

Personal training here at the University of Wyoming is more abundant than you would think. There are 13 certified personal trainers on campus and all of them are students here at UW. They undergo a rigorous shadowing program that allows them to see how to properly handle their clients in a professional and fun way.

A few things that Erin Kyle, the fitness coordinator on campus, looks for while employing students is versatility in knowledge of different types of working out and creativity to be able to tailor workouts to a client’s individual needs. Whether that be training for a sport, getting in shape or just finding a workout that works for the individual.

Kyle explained that becoming a personal trainer isn’t necessarily all about having the knowledge of different workouts or even being able to build a workout, but also having a personality so that you can build a good relationship with your clients.

Kyle also mentioned every personal has an interest or specialty and hers, when she was an active a personal trainer, involved a lot of running, due to the fact that she was a competitive cross country and track runner for many years.

A person who embodies all of these qualities and is currently a personal trainer at Half Acre gym is Devin Jones. Originally from California, Jones moved to Wyoming at the age of 20 to begin studying wind power engineering. He quickly concluded that it wasn’t something that his heart was in.

Jones began to work out a lot and began to develop his own work out routines. he loved the lifestyle and looked into new things like body building to further his knowledge and he came across personal training as a career path. He proceeded to get his certification and he then became a personal trainer at Half Acre and switched his major to kinesiology so that it was more relevant to his passion.

“Several factors go into creating work outs; things like gender, background, age are all things that you have to think about while trying to get the client excited about working out,” Jones said.

Personal Training makes Jones feel a sense of fulfillment by helping people get where they want to be with their fitness and even their lifestyles, while he does something that he has a true passion for.
