Cowboys wrestling dominate Utah Valley in Friday’s duel

The 10th ranked Cowboys dominated Utah Valley Wrestling, winning Friday’s Duel with a final score of 38-4. The story of the night was the Two Cowboy overtime victories.

The First of these victories came in the 184-pound division where Wyoming’s Chaz Polson won in the first overtime period by takedown. The second Came in the heavyweight division where Sam Eagan also secured a win for Wyoming by take down, Eagan’s came in the second overtime.

Luke Paine’s match in the 194-pound division was almost sent into overtime as well, however a thrilling escape by Paine with less than 10 seconds in the third period gave him the decision win with a final score of 3-2.

Wyoming also had several wins by fall; in fact the first three matches of the night were won by fall. Bryce Meredith started off the night winning his match in the 141-pound class by a fall in the second period.

Sam Turner followed this for the Pokes by pinning his opponent in a very acrobatic fashion in the second period of the 149-pound weight class.  Number 10 ranked Archie Colgan was able to work off turners win and win by technical fall with a score of 16-1 after the second period in the 157-pound division.

A Utah valley forfeit in the 165-pound weight class and Drake Foster and number 4 ranked Montorie Bridges in their respective weight classes brought the Pokes score up to 38.  The only Cowboy loss of the night came in the 174- pound weight class where Wyoming’s Dewey Krueger lost to Utah Valley’s number 17 ranked Kimball Bastian by major decision with a score of 10-2.

The Cowboys next home duel is Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Arena Auditorium against the University of Northern Colorado Bears.
