Trivia night tests students knowledge

This past Wednesday evening students gathered in the bottom of the Union for an evening of trivia. With Halloween coming up the trivia topics had a spooky theme.

Trivia night has a bit of a tradition, happening a few times each semester. Topics ranged from horror films to answering questions about the roots and traditions of Halloween.

Students who had participated in previous trivia nights and newbies met at 8 p.m. to begin the event. The variety of topics gave everyone a chance to show off their knowledge. Similar to other trivia nights, teams of up to four people and individuals were invited to participate. Students were encouraged to check in and winners at the end of the evening could only claim their prizes if they were UW students. 7220 Entertainment also posted some trivia questions on their Facebook page for people to answer. The students who answered them correctly and attended this Wednesday’s Trivia Night were invited to sit at a VIP table for the event with an array of goodies.

“We always do Trivia Nights every year,” said Vanessa Alverez, one of the 7220 Entertainment staff working at the event. Trivia events have been hosted previously with a high level of success and attendance.

“After seeing and hearing from so many students about how much they loved trivia nights we decided to start holding three a semester this year.” said Alverez.

Students might feel the school week dragging them down and typically look forward to a Friday or Saturday night. According to Alverez the goal of hosting an event like this on a Wednesday evening is to break students out of their normal routine and give them something to look forward to in the middle of the week.

With so many other events that they host on campus, more trivia events on campus may not be in the cards.

“There are a lot of other events that we plan and trivia night kind of go in between them. More students were to say they wanted more trivia nights we could always look into doing more smaller and frequent trivia nights,” said Alverez.

As far as topics go, a separate committee is in charge of selecting themes if there are any, categories and individual questions for the events.

Several students attending the event commented that this was not their first trivia night at UW. A few also participate in trivia nights held at local bars and pubs around Laramie.

7220 in partnership with the Campus Activities Center puts on events all over campus throughout the semester. Look out for the next trivia night happening in November.
