Wyoming goes red, Dems make small local gains

Election results are in from enough counties to declare winners in Wyoming races.

With approximately 93 percent of precincts across the state reporting results, Republican Mark Gordon took the Governors’ Mansion with 66.6 percent of the vote. He was supported by 21 counties, with Albany County and Teton County supporting Democrat Mary Throne.

Republican John Barrasso was reelected to the U.S. Senate with 66.6 percent of the vote, supported by 21 counties. Albany and Teton counties went blue for Gary Trauner. Republican Liz Cheney was reelected to the U.S. House with 63.2 percent of the vote.

Unofficial results are in for all precincts of Albany County. In the State Senate, Democrat Chris Rothfuss took the District 9 seat with 73 percent of the vote and Republican Larry Hicks won District 11 with 80.5 percent.

In the State Legislature, Democrat Cathy Connolly won District 13 with 75.8 percent, Republican Daniel Furphy won District 14 with 48.7 percent, Charles Pelkey won District 45 with 57 percent, Republican Bill Haley won District 46 with 51.8 percent and Republican Jerry Paxton won District 47 with 86.4 percent.

Democrat Pete Gosar and Republican Heber Richardson will join Terri Jones on the Albany County Commission. Gosar won 24.4 percent of the vote and Richardson won 19.5 percent. Sheriff Dave O’Malley was reelected with 63.4 percent of the vote.

Unofficial results for Laramie City Council are in. Jessica Stadler won the Ward 1 seat with 44.5 percent of the vote. Paul Weaver takes the Ward 2 seat with 68.5 percent. Ward 3’s two seats will be filled by Erin O’Doherty, who won 23.8 percent, and Bryan Shuster, who won 19.3 percent.
