Egg hunt held Saturday for Easter

Saturday the Wyoming Honors Organization is partnering with the University of Wyoming Non-Traditional Student Council to host an Easter egg hunt on campus.

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., there will be egg hunts and variety of other activities on Prexy’s Pasture and Wyoming Union. For the last eight years the two student organizations have partnered to increase turnout for this event.

In 2017 the Easter egg hunt drew over 3,000 people from around campus and Laramie and has grown since then. This year there will be three different hunts based on age, as well as photos with the Easter bunny, face painting, food, games and more, all free to the community.

“The hunt was started by the Non-Traditional Student Council as a way for student parents to enjoy Easter with their children on the University of Wyoming’s campus,” said Eloise Fadial, president of the Wyoming Honor’s Organization. “The Wyoming Honors Organization is now partnering with the Non-Traditional Student Council to help them cope with the ever growing numbers attending the event. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable event for the families of the Laramie community.”

The Non-Traditional Student Council is for students who may have followed a different path than attending college straight out of high school, including students who are older than 25, are married, have dependents, are veterans or other aspects. The Wyoming Honors Organization is the recognized student organization for the Honors College.

The events will begin at 9 a.m. with check in and waiver signing. At 9:30 a.m. there will be an opportunity to have a photo taken with the Easter bunny as well as face painting and a variety of games will begin throughout the Union and Prexy’s.

There are three egg hunts beginning with ages 4 to 7 years at 10 a.m., followed by a hunt for 0 to 3 year-olds at 10:15 a.m. and one for ages 8 and older at 10:45 a.m.

“I think that many students do not realize how great the Laramie community is and find it difficult to separate themselves from school,” said Fadial. “I believe these sorts of large events are very important for bringing together the local and student communities.”

Throughout the event, until 1 p.m., there will be games, face painting, food and fun to help the campus and Laramie community celebrate Easter.

“This event brings together both the members of the student community and the local community of Laramie,” said Fadial. “It is wonderful for parents both at UW and in the community to be able to bring their kids to the campus to have fun in a safe environment.”
