Students of all majors and years are invited to scout out employment and internship opportunities presented by UW’s advising center at the annual BIG Job Fair.

Today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Wyoming Union’s Yellowstone Ballroom will be filled with students and a total of 162 employers from a variety of industries. Tuesday’s event will focus on industries involving engineering and technology, but is open to students of all majors. Wednesday’s career fair will have a general focus from multiple industries.

“Several years ago, we decided to break the career fair into two days, because we have too many employers for one day.  For the events coming up, we have 92 employers registered for the Engineering & Technology Job Fair and 70 registered for the BIG Job Fair,” said Recruiting/Events Coordinator Tami Browning.

Browning recommends students to come to the event prepared, dressed professionally and utilize career services tools to prepare the best for the event. Students can find more information about career search platforms including Handshake and EPIC on UWs Advising, Career and Exploratory Studies (ACES) webpage.

The Handshake platform requires the use of a UW username and password. Within Handshake, individuals can find a list of registered employers and opportunities offered at the career fair.

As UW hosts job fairs in both the fall and spring, students are always encouraged to present themselves in a professional manner in order to make the most of networking opportunities. It is highly recommended students come to the event with multiple copies of resumes containing contact info for employers and to be prepared to take notes on information gathered.

“Students should understand and be able to articulate their strengths and competencies, and they should do their homework in advance to learn about employers that they are interested in talking to at the fair,” said Browning.

In order to be best prepared, students can find information about booth locations and links to company websites on the Handshake platform. Of the 162 employers, 35 businesses are specifically offering opportunities to students of all majors. Opportunities from 62 different industries will be presented at the event, where students from a number of different majors can make the most of opportunities offered at the career fair.

“We encourage all students to attend. Students who are graduating can inquire about current job opportunities, underclassmen can ask questions about future opportunities and inquire about summer jobs and internships,” said Browning.

According to information provided by UW’s Handshake platform, 97 available positions within volunteer, experiential learning, job and internship categories will be offered. Students can find specifics on the positions available from different employers through Handshake.

Students can find assistance in developing resumes, and obtain career counseling within the ACES center. Career counselors are available to assist with finding career paths, polishing interviewing skills and finding employment opportunities through specific events such as the BIG Job Fair.
