“The World Needs More Cowboys” event, Oct. 26

On Tuesday, October 26 from 5 to 7 p.m., “The World Needs More Cowboys” celebration will take place at Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington.

“The World Needs More Cowboys” campaign aims to redefine the meaning of being a Cowboy and highlights inclusivity, breaking stereotypes and giving students the support they need to achieve their future goals.

Events are held monthly, and this will mark the 22nd time this event has been held throughout the state. It is open to the public with free appetizers and beverages available.

The celebration will provide students, the public and alumni with an opportunity to learn more about and connect with the university.

“I think last year we had about 75 people show up from the community. I think events like this bring people together, especially during this time,” said Jennifer Loveland, general manager at Cottonwood Country Club.

University President, Ed Seidel, will be at the celebration and will speak about the university’s collaborations with community colleges around the state.

Speakers will also include students from Goshen County who will talk about their time at the university. Alumna, Samantha Yung, will discuss the positive impact that the university had on her career.

“These events have helped UW strengthen and build new connections with communities around the state,” Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, Chad Baldwin, said. “President Seidel has been able to meet with alumni, community leaders and prospective students.”

Before the event begins, President Seidel, the UW students from Goshen County and UW political science Professor Jean Garrison will speak at Torrington, Southeast and Lingle-Fort Laramie high schools.

“We’ve had current UW students from each community serve as ambassadors and talk about their UW experience at both the evening events and high school assemblies,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin said that an alum is recognized in each community during each event, and by doing so the connectedness of UW throughout Wyoming is highlighted. The events also show that degrees from UW can lead to landing a job in the state.

“Current UW students have made connections with alumni around the state, alumni have strengthened and renewed their connections with their alma mater, and President Seidel has gotten to know Wyoming better, and vice versa,” Baldwin said.

The next “The World Needs More Cowboys” celebration will take place in Laramie on November 5.
