Cowgirls lose to Wolf Pack in five sets

The Wyoming Cowgirls’ volleyball team faced off against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday, Oct.10, where they came up short in five sets.

It was a constant back-and-forth game, winning the second and third sets, the final scores being 25-23, 24-26, 16-25, 25-21, and 15-13.

The first set was a close call, and so was the second.  In the end, Freshman Skylar Erickson led the Cowgirls to a victory in the second set with a game-changing ace.

They then went on and controlled the third set, with junior Naya Shimé recording her third 20-plus kill match of the season; she recorded 23 kills by the end of the game.

Sophomore Teresa Garza and graduate student KC McMahon added 11 kills to their season total, and freshman Sarah Holcomb had five kills and a team-best of six blocks after getting off the bench.

On the defensive side, senior Hailey Zuroske held her record with a career-best of 25 digs. She was also one of the four Cowgirls to record an ace during the game.

Sophomore Kasia Partyka once again tallied a double-double, tying her career-high of 29 assists and 15 digs.

Garza also assisted on defense, recording her first double-double, having ten digs against the Wolf Pack.

In the end, even after all the career bests and career firsts, the Cowgirls still ended up losing against the Wolf Pack.

After Saturday’s game, Wyoming’s season stats are 2-4 for Mountain West games and 6-12 overall.  They are ranked 8 out of eleven and are currently on a two-game losing streak.

The Cowgirls will have the chance to break that streak and boost their rankings on Thursday, October 13, when they will face off against San Diego State University.

The team has had the most luck on the road, so fans are hopeful the Cowgirls will come out victorious during Thursday’s, Oct. 13, game.
