UW athletes arrested

Two University of Wyoming athletes have been kicked of their respective teams after being arrested by the Laramie Police Department on Tuesday.

Men’s basketball player Shakir Smith is suspected of larceny and wrestling team member Patrick Martinez was suspected of conspiracy to commit larceny, according to the Laramie Police Department.

Smith’s arrest is related to charges that were brought against men’s basketball player Leonard Washington for criminal entry in April. Smith was a guard on the basketball team and played in 15 games in his freshman year,  the Casper Star Tribune reported.

Martinez had 35 wins on the wrestling team and was a two-time West Regional Champ at 174 pounds, according to KOWL. Even though he was arrested for conspiracy to commit larceny, Laramie Police said he would not offcially be charged.
