Wyoming Cowgirls forward Ashley Sickles moves around a block in a game last year.

The Cowgirls will host Dakota Wesleyan University, from South Dakota, in an exhibition at 7 p.m. Monday.

The team was ranked fourth in the Mountain West Conference pre-season poll. The poll consisted of all of the nine coaches and some women’s basketball media professionals.

They ranked San Diego State number one in the pre-season poll with 198 points. Newcomer to the Mountain West conference, Fresno State, is ranked second with 163 points.

Then University of Las Vegas is ranked just over Wyoming with 137 votes, compared to UW’s 136 votes.

Colorado State University is fifth with 109, New Mexico University is sixth with 97, followed by Boise State with 86, Nevada with 41 and Air Force with 32.

The Cowgirls ended last season with a loss to San Diego State in the MW Conference Championships, 73-55. The women are hopeful for a better year, and have picked up a new player, Aubry Boehme.

Boehme, a junior forward from Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colo., was voted as the Preseason Newcomer of the year in the MW preseason conference.

The Cowgirls will travel to Boulder, Colo. on Nov. 28 to play Colorado University. The first time UW will play Fresno State will be Jan. 16 in Laramie.

Last season the Cowgirls ended their season on a loss and a record of 12-17 overall and in the conference 7-7. This season will be better than ever with the returning players, now seniors, and others. Wyoming will show the Mountain West Conference pre-season voters that they are better than fourth.

So Cowgirl Basketball fans get ready for the 2012-2013 season.
