SAC offers comforts of home

The Student Activities Council will host its Third Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at 5 p.m. tonight in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.

“Community members as well as University of Wyoming students are welcome to come to the dinner,” SAC marketing chair Liz Gibbons said. “Students are free. However, they will be charged for their spouses or children if they want to bring them to the dinner.”

The dinner will be catered by the University of Wyoming and will consist of traditional fare, including turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes and gravy, Gibbons said.

Music and dancing also will be part of the dinner.

“Some jazz students are getting together to play music for people who are at the dinner,” Gibbons said.

There will only be enough for about 250 people to attend the dinner. Even though students do not have to pay to attend the dinner, those who wish to attend should get their tickets early to reserve a spot. Tickets can be reserved — or purchased, for non-student attendees — at the Information Desk in the Wyoming Union.

The dinner is hosted to give students the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving, even if it is not part of their cultures, former SAC lead student programmer Anna Rader told UW News last year. It also is intended to give those students who are unable to go home for Thanksgiving the holiday experience they grew up with.

A similar event has been held the past two years. Last year, Altitude Chophouse and Brewery catered the event. Previous years have been fairly successful, as all the tickets were usually given away for the dinner, Rader said last year.
