For some students, hiding out between the stacks at Coe Library is the best place on campus to study because there are few distractions.

Finding a good place to study can be difficult, but among the many buildings on the University of Wyoming campus lie a few hidden study areas that might offer more than the typical library stacks.

Room 5010, in the northwestern corner of the engineering building, is a hidden gem. This study room is one of the better locations on campus because of its large windows that look over northern Laramie. There are two tables that are great for meeting with a group, two microwaves for when hunger hits, some couches to curl up on for a quick nap and it is located in a quiet area.

Many buildings, like Coe Library and the business building, have private study rooms that are always good to focus and get a lot of work done. A lot of students say that by having their own room without distractions they are able to accomplish more. Some of the study rooms in the library are equipped with webcams, microphones and videoconferencing software.

The Alma Doke McMurry Reading Room in Coe Library is a great place to go for an “at-home” feel. The couches, lighting, bookshelves and rocking chairs give the sense of being in grandpa’s personal library. It is a great place to go enjoy a leisurely read, study for an exam or write a paper. This room also has large windows that allow for a lot of natural lighting throughout the day.

The basement of Washakie also offers students an “at-home” feel with its fireplace. With computers and many couches, it is a great place to study with other people around for when you need a break from studying.

Similar to Washakie, the basement of the Union also is very popular, and options for food or coffee are never far away.

While some students prefer the option of distraction when they need a study break, some students prefer not to have any distraction. A few like to study in the middle of the library stack aisles. They try to find the most secluded book aisle and take a seat.

Many buildings on campus have great studying spots. All it takes is a little searching for the perfect location. Everyone’s study pattern is different, but UW offers locations to suit every student. All they have to do is explore.
