This year, members of the Collegiate FFA chapter made lap blankets for the Ivinson Memorial Hosptital Guest House as a Day of Service project.

As FFA members in high school, every member learns the FFA Motto: “Learning to do, Doing to learn, Earning to live, Living to serve.”

Each year the Wyoming FFA chapters participate in a Day of Service giving back to its community. The Collegiate FFA Chapter is no different. For two years it secured grant funding to provide holiday dinners and/or WalMart gift cards to needy families in the Laramie community.

Needing a project for this year, its adviser learned of the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Guest House through Guy Warpness, the Wyoming Technical Institute President. After some thought, the members decided to construct lap blankets for each room in the Guest House. Undeterred by the lack of grant funding this year, they purchased enough material to make nine lap blankets for the Ivinson Memorial Hospital Guest House.

At their regular November meeting, approximately 20 chapter members sat around tables and tied knots in the material to create the lap blankets. It took a little less than an hour to create the nine blankets. Chapter Treasurer, Leo Perez Jr. and adviser, Kris Brewer took the lap blankets to the IMH Foundation office on Dec. 4. Dee Bott, of the IMH Foundation board was happy to receive the blankets on behalf of the Guest House.
