Last Tuesday, the Mountain West Conference announced the football matchups for the upcoming 2013-16 seasons. Though the matchups were released, actual dates and games will continue to be decided on an annual basis.

The Cowboys seem to have lucked out for their upcoming season as they were privileged to host the “Border War” against foes Colorado State at War Memorial for the second consecutive year. The rival game will go down as the 105th between the two teams.

The MW also announced Wyoming’s other conference home games in 2013, which will include Fresno State, Hawaii and New Mexico. The Cowboys Mountain West road trips this coming season will take them to Air Force, Boise State, San Jose State and Utah State. The dates of games, game times and television coverage have not been announced yet but will be listed in the upcoming weeks.

The 12 games listed will feature eight conference games, five of which will be against other teams in each school’s division while the other three will be played against teams in the MW’s other division.

Each team is expected to have four home games and four road conference games each season. The teams will play all the opponents home and away during the four-year period.

Taken from the release from the MW, Intra-divisional opponents will alternate sites annually (three home/two away or two home/three away). The three cross-divisional opponents will be the same in each two-year period, with the site alternating from Year 1 to Year 2. The three cross-divisional opponents who are missed initially will appear on the schedule in the second two years of the cycle, again alternating sites from Year 3 to Year 4. The entire four-year sequence repeats beginning in 2017 and will continue thereafter.

Directors of athletics in the MW conference have formed two football divisions based upon common geographic regions and traditional rivalries, while also creating the first Mountain West Football Championship Game. Beginning in the fall of 2013, Mountain West football membership will include: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV in the West Division.

Poke fans can anticipate the future lineups will be exciting events as the Cowboys begin practicing with spring drawing near.
