ASUW pushes more legislation

In their second meeting of the spring semester, senators of ASUW were eager to use the three and a half months left in their terms to influence a successful semester.

“We need to continue to write legislations to positively impact the students at UW,” President Brett Kahler said.

The meeting began with the induction of three new members to ASUW before leading into the meeting’s reports.

-The senators discussed the legislator report for last semester, commenting that there were “less [acts presented] than past”.

-Six pieces of legislation were passed last semester, three of which went towards exchange members.

-ASUW is holding a dinner Thursday with Governor Mead, First Lady Mead, and President McGinty at the Wildcatter Suite. Each senator got to ask a question for the dinner.

-The Chinese ambassador scholarship will decide which student will receive a one-year, no cost trip to study in China in February. Applications for the scholarship will be posted tomorrow on the ASUW webpage.

-Tuition town hall will meet next Wednesday, January 29th from 12pm-2pm in the Family room along with February 2nd.

-The senators discussed the Days of Dialogue event and encouraged many to attend.

-Senator of Government Affairs, Barker, discussed putting together a document of the legislative bills to let the senators know what was brought forward.

The meeting concluded with Vice President Murdoch encouraging the senators to ask for help on their individual projects, if needed, and to continue to write legislation to benefit the student body.
