Cowgirls best Air Force 73-32

Wyoming, led by junior forward Kayla Woodward, throttled Air Force 73-32 on Wednesday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

It was a blitz from the start as the Cowgirls took an 11-3 lead with 14:04 to play. By the 4:03 mark the Cowgirls lead had swelled to 17 at 26-9.

Wyoming went into the halftime break owning a commanding 34-11 lead.

The start of the second half was much more of the same as at the 11 minute media timeout some of the Cowgirl’s main contributors took a seat with a 51-26 lead.

The Cowgirls built a 45 point lead at one point and this allowed the bench to log valuable minutes in the lopsided 73-32 victory.

Kayla Woodward ended up scoring 19 points. Hometown girl, junior guard Kaitlyn Miteto added 14 points, which also gave her over 1,000 points in her Wyoming career. Sophomore guard Marquelle Dent just missed out on a double-double with 12 points and nine assists.

Wyoming only shot 44 percent from the field, 42 percent from three point land, but of their 27 made baskets, 24 of them were assisted on.

No player for Air Force reached double digits in points scored. The leading scorer for the Falcons was senior guard Camille Thompson. Freshman forward Sarah Fotsch added eight points.

The Flacons ended the night shooting just 28 percent from the field and 18 percent from behind the arc.

The Cowgirls were able to turn the Falcons over 23 times and score 13 points off of those turnovers. Wyoming on the other hand turned the ball over just seven times. The Cowgirls also out-rebounded the Falcons 39-36 and out-scored them in the paint 20-8.

If there was one negative to pull from this game for Wyoming is that they were just 50 percent, 9/18 from the charity stripe.

The Cowgirls will stay on the road and play a critical game at Boise State on Saturday. The Cowgirls and Broncos are tied with Nevada at 10-5 in conference, which is just a half game behind second place Fresno State. The top five seeds going into conference tournament time get a first round bye.

The Cowgirls have been playing better of late away from home, winning two of their last three road tilts.

The game is set for a 4 p.m. tap time in Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho.
