Sophomore Kamrin Allen led all Wyoming golfers this past week at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Wyoming as a team tied for 15th with a three-round score of 876.  From their best round to their worst round, the Cowboys only had, at most, a five shot difference.

“We had guys playing well at times but we underperformed,” said head coach Joe Jenson to gowyo.com.  “Some of the guys played well.  I was pretty pleased with Kamrin.  Ryan, as a freshman, proved he can be in our lineup.  We had guys playing well at times but we underperformed.”

Allen shot a three-round score of 216 (+6), which earned him a tie for 35th.  He was very consistent throughout the tournament carding a 71, 73 and a final round 72.

Not far behind Allen was his senior teammate Eddie Stewart who finished up with a total score of 218 (+8), good enough to tie for 46th.  Stewart had the best round of any UW golfer with his final round 70.

Placing third for the Cowboys was freshman Ryan Wallen.  Wallen carded a 220 (+10), which put him in a tie for 59th.  He showed consistency as well, shooting a 73, 74 and a 73.

Placing 68th in the tournament and fourth for the Cowboys was senior Brent Baylon with a score of 223 (+13).  Finishing up the team scoring was senior Eric Parish who shot a 236 (+26), which earned him a tie for 111th.

Competing as individuals for Wyoming were junior Cameron Lindell and redshirt junior P.J. Thomas.

Lindell finished up with a score of 232 (+22), while Thomas closed right behind him with a 233 (+23).

Oklahoma had the overall winner and as a team brought home the crown.  Junior Michael Gellerman beat out Colorado’s David Oraee and BYU’s Cole Ogden by one stroke to claim the top honors and his first ever win with a score of 204 (-6).  Oklahoma as a team comfortably won the title with a team score of 831 (-9).  BYU and Colorado tied for second with a score of 838 (-2).

This wrapped up the regular season for the Cowboys.  Their best finish this spring came in the Oregon Duck Invite where they finished 11th in a 16-team field.

The Cowboys will next hit the course at the Mountain West Championships in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday, April 25.
