Crews complete renovations at Cowboy Field

ON Cowboy

Cowboy Field, Home to the Laramie Colts legion and the UW Cowboys club teams, has undergone a number of field improvements. The field, located just east of War Memorial Field on Willet Drive has undergone renovations includingnew grass in the outfield, as well as fresh dirt in the infield and pitcher’s mound. A new drainage and irrigation system have also been installed.

Previous restorations on Cowboy Field took place in 2008, when new lights and an expanded grandstand with a 600 person capacity were installed. Aside from these updates, the field has a press box, restrooms, covered dugouts and a P.A. system.

Justin Mette, club President for the UW baseball team, said the construction was necessary because the facility was outdated. The infield tended to be rocky and the grass was sparse in the outfield, Mette said.

“I think any team that gets to play on Cowboy field when it’s done will be a lot happier with the field,” Mette said.

This construction has been ongoing and simultaneous with campus construction updates throughout the late summer months. The Laramie Colts Legion team was not available for comment.

Renovations will be completed in time for the UW club team tryouts, which take place at the end of the month. In the mean time, students using Willett lots should use caution and watch for heavy equipment in and around the field.
