The Cowgirls had a couple of hard overtime losses this past weekend.

The first game occurred Friday Aug. 29 against Idaho State in Pocatello, ID.  Both teams started off the game with solid defense, with only three combined three shots allowed and not one successful on goal.  Wyoming’s opportunities for scoring came from a free kick from Sammi Dunda and a kick from Kayla Cryer, that was just a bit too high for the net.  The game went to halftime tied at 0-0.

The tie was finally broken as the Cowgirls struk first.  Kasey Curtis was able to get a penalty kick and delivered with her scoring opportunity. Idaho State responded, and scored two straight goals from Maria Sanchez and Samantha Rodriquez.

Wyoming tied the game back up with a put-back from Cryer in the 77th minute.   The game went into overtime, tied at 2-2.  Idaho State won the match in the eighth minute of overtime, with Amanda Ellsworth putting away her own rebound.  The final score was 3-2 in favor of Idaho State.

The road troubles for the Wyoming Cowgirl’s soccer team continued on Sunday as they fell to Weber State, 2-1 in overtime.  Wyoming struck first, with a goal from Freshman Candace Sciberras about 14 minutes into the game.  But Wyoming had a hard time finding scoring opportunities after its first goal, only getting three shots on goal for the game. In opposition, Weber State struck ten times.

Danielle McKay looked solid to start, with four saves in the first half.  However, Weber State finally broke through and got a goal from Mackenzie Peck late in the first half. McKay continued to look like a rock through the second half, blocking everything that was kicked at her.

After both teams could not find the back of the net in the second half, the teams went to overtime.  The overtime was quick, and Mackenzie Harrison of Weber State finally snagged a goal 33 seconds into overtime.

These two games were losses, but the Cowgirls are improving.  Head coach Pete Cuadrado said of the two games, “It’s tough to drop two on the road, and being on the road for six games is tough. Friday was a physical game for us. Sunday we came out with better intensity than Friday.”

Wyoming’s next game will be against Utah Valley. “It’s another tough road game, and we need to be sharp.  [Utah] is coming off a big win versus Baylor last weekend,” said Cuadrado

This will be Wyoming’s third of five straight road games, as they play Utah Valley in Orem, Utah on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
