Tuesday was not only the first day of the October it was also the grand opening of Pete’s Game Room. From 10 a.m.-10 p.m. in the lower level of the Union boasts billiards, table tennis, foosball, shuffleboard and Xbox gaming. However, to help celebrate the grand opening, the Student Activities Council (SAC) had brought in billiard and table tennis players to help give “tips and tricks” to improve people’s skill.

“It was a very warm and fun environment down here in the game room. I play table tennis often and I feel like I even took away something from the other people playing down here,” said University of Wyoming Student Michael Kesy. “Plus, it was just neat to see all the different actives going on and all the people down here, too.”

As well as billiards, table tennis and free food, the grand opening had comedian Hasan Minhaj come and preform. Hasan Minhaj is a comedian and actor from Los Angeles.

“I am looking forward to seeing Hasan Minhaj live. I’ve seen some of the work he has done on TV and cannot to hear his stand up,” said University student Derek Zydwe. “It should be pretty good.”

There was a special appearance by Pistol Pete while there were many prizes being given away as well.

All of this was to unveil the new look of the game room and encourage students to check out what the lower level of the Union has to offer. Where there will not be comedians or free food every day, the game room will be open to students to hang out, play games, and just relax in between homework, classes and the usual grind of every day. Students were already excited about this.

“The Student Activities Council and Pete’s Game Room really did a good job with this event,” said UW student Alexa Simmons. “Truth be told, I did not really think there was too much down here, but I know I will be back down here in later days. It just seems like it has a little something for anyone and especially once midterms or finals come I think this place will be a welcome relief.”
