Getting Into The Holiday Spirit

I am a strong believer that colleges are out to get us as students, solely for the fact that they have finals so close to Christmas. How do these scrooges expect us to watch the 25 days of Christmas when we have finals, speeches, and presentations galore! Well if you are anything like me, I get into the Christmas spirit a little early just in case I get too caught up in homework.

As of right now I am curled up in front of my lit Christmas tree drinking a hot cup of cocoa. A little bit later I plan on watching Elf on ABC Family. Christmas is such a wonderful time of year and I love everything about it. Some of the best feelings in the world are based around the holiday season. Let’s discover some ways to get into the holiday spirit.

What better way to pay it forward than to treat someone that isn’t your family, like family, on this relative based holiday. Christmas is a great way to learn how to pay it forward. Instead of always receiving gifts, try giving. See that homeless shelter that you always pass on the way to work? Take your hour long lunch break and volunteer. Or the animal shelter a few blocks down from you! Dogs and kittens love toys, take a five dollar bill and go deliver some toys to the fluffy fellas. A random act of kindness will get you into the holiday spirit and also help someone that may be in need.

Bake some Christmas cookies! This is one of my favorite ways to get into the spirit. Grab your best friend or your fiancé, go to the store and grab some ingredients. After you bake the cookies you can decorate them with holiday colors. This makes the cookies so much more festive. If you and your friend can’t eat all the cookies by yourself, wrap them up and give them to your neighbors. What better way to spread holiday joy then a box full of sweets?

Set up your holiday decorations! Send your significant other outside to put a couple lights out in front of the house. After that you guys can put up your Christmas tree and some mistletoe on top of the fireplace. This doesn’t only give you a reason to be extremely festive but it gives you a reason to steal a few smooches every once in a while.

I have had my Christmas decorations up for more than a month now so if anyone is worried about jumping the gun it should be me.

One of my favorite things to do to get ready for Christmas would have to be gift shopping. I get gifts for everyone! I love thinking about what would make everyone excited and then as soon as I get home I wrap them! Wrapping presents is a blast. All of the sparkly, shiny Christmas wrapping is a blast to work with. Go out and get your shopping done early. This will reduce the stress later on and allow you to spend more time with family.

Family is super important, and during the holiday season is when most of us get to see our loved ones that we haven’t seen in a while. If you have some extra time before Christmas give your favorite aunt a call and let her know how excited you are to see her. She will love the thought, I promise.

I am looking at the time and I realized that Elf starts in seven minutes and I still haven’t made myself any hot tea. To end this off right here is a challenge. Go take advantage of this Christmas season and go do something you haven’t done in the past years. Make this Christmas one you won’t forget.
