Half Acre opening delay frustrates us all

Ugh is the general reaction I have been getting from people when I talk to them about the delayed gym opening.

It’s just a tad bit frustrating that the grand opening for the university gym is delayed once again, and this time, for a whole month. To be honest, I have resorted to different gyms around town.

In the dead of winter, I don’t specifically enjoy walking around five different buildings in order to get to the one gym entrance. Let’s open up at least one other entrance people.

The small portion of the gym that is actually open at this point of time is way too crowded. It is hardly possible to get cardio in. I like running for my cardio workout, not kickboxing some girl for a treadmill. On the upside, I am under the impression that we are going to have a kick-ass cardio area once the gym is done. Until then I suppose I will continue to fight for a machine.

I am so tired of hearing my fiancé explain to me how excited he is for the climbing wall to open. Let’s get that bad boy opened, so all the annoyed girlfriends can send our men to the rock- climbing wall.

One thing we should all be stoked about is free hot tub access. With no hot tub at Corbett, it makes going to the pool a tad bit miserable. On top of that, the showers in Corbett suck. Water should not feel like needles puncturing your skin. Swimming in the winter is never fun unless we are able to get warm and relax afterwards.

I hope with a burning passion with all of these renovations that are happening, there is an improvement in the air circulation. If anyone has ever done cardio with 50 other people in an extremely condensed space you may have experienced a close to death experience.

On the plus side, I believe that all the swimmers on campus are really excited to see how they pull off the pool. The pools around town are always just a little too crowded. A nice patron free pool will be nice for a change. There are some 8-lane pools around town, so will our new University pool be able to stand with the other pools around town?

There are definitely some pros and cons of the delayed grand opening of the new gym. On the plus side, we are going to have one rad gym. They are sparing no expense to make sure we have the best facilities around town. On the negative end, students are either resorting to other gyms around town or not getting the most out of their workouts. This renovation is taking a bit longer than everyone expected.

We are all going to keep our eyes on the prize, which is a not specified date in March.
