Laramie police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on South 7th Street at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday, and discovered the fire had been intentionally started.

LPD found that the offender also attempted arson on a building on the same block.

Brady Scott, a UW student, walked outside his house to discover four or five policeman around his grey 2007 Honda Accord. The car was still on fire, and so was a gas can left near the car.

“I was woken up by my neighbor at about 3 a.m.,” Scott said, “and she told me that my car is on fire, which is kind of a bad thing to wake up to in the morning.”

Scott said that the fire was started with a gasoline oil mixture that the arsonist stole from a nearby building.

The perpetrator poured the mixture into the mail slot of a building and after failing to light it, he moved on to Scott’s car, according to an LPD press release.

About five minutes after Scott arrived on the scene, the fire had spread to the inside of the car. The Laramie Fire Department broke Scott’s window to put the fire out.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest of the arsonist. To submit an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 742-CARE.
