University announces College of Business dean

Sanjay Putrevu, an accomplished professor from the University at Albany-SUNY, will take his place at UW as the new Dean of the College of Business.

The university selected Putrevu, who currently serves as a professor of Marketing and former associate dean at University at Albany-SUNY, from “an outstanding field of candidates,” according to a UW press release.

Petrevu’s selection came about because he “brings a wealth of experience and energy to this important leadership position at UW,” and additionally the College of Business is “confident that the combined efforts of Dr. Putrevu and the faculty members will lift the college to even greater levels of excellence,” according to the news release.

Receiving his masters at the Birla Institute of Science and Technology in Pilani, India, Putrevu then went on to receive a Ph. D. at the University at Buffalo-SUNY. From there Putrevu wrote dozens of publications, and has been cited numerous times. Putrevu also appeared on CBS for an analysis of Super Bowl ads.

“I was very impressed with the students, alumni and other key university stakeholders during my short visit to UW,” Putrevu said in the press release. “I know that the college is blessed with a wonderful complement of dedicated faculty and staff who are eager to take it to the next level.”

The appointment of Putrevu marks the end of a search that began last fall and additionally marks the end of John Mittlestat’s term as interim dean.
