The Wyoming Cowgirls (15-13 overall, 10-8 MW) closed out the regular-conference season, on senior night in Laramie, with an 11-point home loss 66-55 to the New Mexico Lobos (18-11 overall, 14-4 MW).

“This team is very close, as most are, and sometimes you don’t know what will happen when you step on the floor. For the first ten minutes, New Mexico was definitely the aggressor,” head coach Joe Legerski said in a Wyoming Athletics press release.

The New Mexico Lobos posted their 11th win in the last 12 games. The Cowgirls last outing was a victory over Utah State 57-61.

Although it was senior night, Junior Marquelle Dent finished with a game-high of 24 points along with four assists and two rebounds. Senior Kaitlyn Mileto finished with ten points and senior Jordan Sibrel tagged seven points and six rebounds. Junior Jordan Kelly finished the game with a team-high of 10 rebounds. Wyoming shot 18-50 from the field, 3-14 from beyond the arc and 16-27 from the free throw line in a defensive struggle against the Lobos.

New Mexico had three players in double figures led by senior Antiesha Brown who had 20 points and four rebounds, freshman guard Cherise Beynon had 15 points and a team-high six rebounds. Khadijah Shumpert had 11 points and three rebounds as well. The Lobos shot 41 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line.

“You never know how the emotions are going to be on senior night and that’s not just your seniors, it’s up and down your roster,” coach Legerski said.

The Cowgirls played the Air Force Falcons last night in the first round of the Women’s Mountain West Tournament and the result was undetermined at the time of printing.
