Cowboys struggle at Thunderbird Invitational

The University of Wyoming men’s golf team ended play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitation with a tally of 886 (+46) and ended the invitation at 14th of a 14-team field.

“This team is getting better and playing more consistent with lots of room to grow still. It was great to see Kamrin and Drew come out in the second round and finish under par in this field of golfers,” head coach Joe Jensen said in a Wyoming Athletics Press Release.

Drew McCullough led the Cowboys after firing a final round of 73 (+3) for a total tally of 213 (+3). This is McCullough third top 25 finish. Junior Kamrin Allen followed shooting a 75 (+5) for a total of 221 (+11). Allen tied for 57th place.

Redshirt Freshman Arron Lickteig, golfing as an individual, ended the day with a 75 (+5) and tied for 69th place. Freshman Quintin Pope carded a 227 (+17) after his final round of 75 (+5). Freshman Glenn Workman finished 74th with a scorecard of 229 (+19). Rounding out the Pokes was sophomore Ryan Wallen, who shot a 76 (+6) in the final round for a total of 230 (+20).

Arizona State won the tournament with a final score of 815 (-25). Arizona State’s Jon Rahm won the tournament out of the 78-man field at 195 (-15).

“This is a national competition and I’m happy with the efforts of the team today,” Jensen said.

The Cowboys returned to play at the Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Arizona. The results were unofficial at the time of printing.
