DEVELOPING: Rochelle Athletics Center might expand to War Memorial Stadium

In an email from Friday, Wyoming Athletics released an announcement of a new project for Wyoming football.

In a joint press conference to be held Monday, Athletic Director Tom Burman and head coach Craig Bohl will announce a project that will “impact the future of University of Wyoming Athletics for decades to come,” from the Wyoming Athletics Press Release.

An unnamed source very close to Wyoming Athletics told me in November what the project would be. The intent is to expand the Rochelle Athletics Center on the south side of the building down to War Memorial Stadium entrance by the bucking cowboy statue. The walkway between the Athletics Center and the stadium will be cut down and no longer have an open walk way.

This idea is beneficial to the football program. Players can now exit directly out of the Rochelle Athletic Center onto the field without the walk down any sidewalk or outside. But for most of the public this is a bad idea. Multiple people, including myself, use that walkway during basketball season to get from parking lot to Arena Auditorium. Will there still be access? Or will people be forced to walk around the expansion.

We should know more Monday.
