The Gardens not saved yet

Despite a petition with over 400 signatures, a WyoVocal post with over 354 votes and a series of meetings proving the venue could easily become financially stable, The Gardens is still slated to close at the end of the semester.

In the previous weeks students attended a series of meetings with the Union Board members in order to voice their opinion, often overwhelmingly in support of keeping the venue open. What came of the discussions was an analysis by student and bar owner Corey Schroeder that revealed The Garden’s losses came from food costs and the wages of managerial personnel rather than liquor costs. Schroeder said reducing either would bring The Gardens back into the black.

These student meetings may not have been entirely ineffective as Vice President of Student Affairs Sara Axelson said she welcomed student input in determining what the space that was The Gardens will become.

The Union Board will meet next Monday to draft a resolution stating the board’s consensus on The Gardens.

An official confirmation of the death of the gardens is expected next week. The university still looks forward to hearing student voices.
