Cowgirl tennis closed out its regular season Saturday with a perfect conference 5-0 record, defeating the CSU Rams 4-0. Wyoming tied for first in the Mountain West conference with a 13-5 overall record, making school history in conference rankings and an undefeated conference play.

“In my ten years of coaching I have not had more fun on any given day as today,” Cowgirls head coach Dean Clower said.

In doubles, seniors Christa Gecheva and Alma Espinosa opened in the number one slot with a 6-2 victory over CSU’s Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska. In the number two slot, senior Jessica Parizher and redshirt freshman Magdalena Stencel shutout their opponents Maddie Buxton and Madison Porter 6-0. Winning two of the three doubles matches, Wyoming took the doubles point. Sophomore Dorottya Jonas and senior Silviya Zhelyazkova did not finish their match.

“Watching all four seniors competing at the same time and playing our style of tennis was great,” Coach Clower said. “Once again, we came out professional and ready to go. We played doubles the way we know how and really executed the game plan. The team has come a long way and aren’t done yet. Thanks again to the best crowd in all the country.”

In singles action, only three Cowgirls finished their matches, the rest went unfinished. In the third slot, Parizher faced Laia Hernandez Soler and won 6-1, 6-1. Following Parizher, Gecheva defeated Aina Hernandez Soler 6-2, 6-3. Taking the final and winning point for the Cowgirls Zhelyazkova took down Maddie Buxton 6-1, 6-1.

Espinosa in the sixth singles slot faced Celine Voss. Voss took the first match 4-6, Espinosa took the second 6-1 and the third match was not played.

Junior Nastya Tokreva did not play her scheduled match against Adriana Wojakowska.

The Cowgirls will return to action in the 2015 Mountain West Championships, which begin on Wednesday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
