The Wyoming basketball team annouced two walk on recruits yesterday.

Cody Kelley of Gillette and Sam Averbuck of Santa Rosa, California committed as walk-ons for the University of Wyoming men’s basketball head coach announced on Wednesday.

“We are excited about these two young men and their families joining our program,” Shyatt said in a Wyoming Athletics Press Release. “Specific to Cody, we are delighted to have one of Wyoming’s finest on our roster. In Sam’s case, I’ve known his father, Chico, a Cleveland Cavaliers’ scout, for a number of years as he is another basketball dinosaur like myself.”

Both players will have four years of eligibility and will begin the 2015-2016 season. Both players are guards.

Kelley, the local commit from Campbell County High School, is the state’s only two-time Gatorade player-of-the-year back to back years in 2013 and 2014. Kelley won the Class 4A state title his senior year after recording almost 25 points per game with 6.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Last season, Kelley played at Elev8 in Delray Beach, Florida. His sister, Jordan, will be a senior on the Cowgirl basketball team in 2015.

Averbuck comes from Suffield Academy from Suffield, Connecticut. The Suffield Tigers went 17-7 with Averbuck and played in the NEPSAC Class A Title game. He graduated from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, California after recording a 24-7 recording for the Vikings. Averbuck earned the honor of North Bay All-League First Team with 11 points per game. Averbuck’s dad, Philip “Chico,” is the Director of International Scouting for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Kelley is 5 feet 11 inches tall and 185 pounds while Averbuck is 6 feet 4 inches tall 195 pounds.

Wyoming still has another scholarship spot open with the announcement of Tyrell Williams leaving the program.
