Public helps police identify suspects

Laramie citizens responded to a photo posted by UWPD on Monday of two suspects in a felony property destruction case. UWPD received numerous tips during the day it took to identify the suspects.

Both the UniWyo Sports Complex and the War Memorial Fieldhouse were vandalized early on Monday morning. Police posted a photo of the two suspects, who were seen leaving the area in a faded red Toyota pickup, as well as a phone number and a text hotline for tips.

“The UWPD would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with this case,” Police Chief Mike Samp said. “A total of 35 phone calls and 13 separate text tips were received, which greatly assisted in identifying the suspects.”

The suspects have been identified by police, but because they are juveniles their names have not been released. The Albany County Attorney’s Office is reviewing charges for both suspects.

Due to the ongoing investigation, total estimates of the damage have not yet been released, and additional follow-up interviews are being conducted. Samp said there is damage to the playing surface at the UniWyo Sports Complex. He also said a fire extinguisher was used at the War Memorial Fieldhouse and chairs were damaged in the Arena-Auditorium.
