Cowgirls soccer was edged out Sunday 1-0 by the Nevada Wolf Pack in Reno, Nevada at Mackay Stadium. The single goal loss dropped the Cowgirls to 3-4-1 in conference play and 7-5-4 overall. Wyoming currently stands at seventh in the Mountain West standings

The Wolf Pack outshot Wyoming in both the first and second half. Both halves were low shooting halves for both Wyoming and Nevada. In the first half the Cowgirls had three shots, but the Wolf Pack had five. As in the second half the Cowgirls only had two shots to the Wolf Pack’s five.

Nevada took the lead late in the first half. Wolf Pack senior forward Erin Saxton made the game winning goal for Nevada in the 41st minute of the first half. Saxton’s goal was a putback off a free kick taken by senior Lindsey Salcido from 25 yards out. Wyoming sophomore goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree came up with the save only to have Sexton make the goal off the rebound.

Rowntree had two saves in the first half and redshirt goalkeeper Cassidy Entsminger had one in the second.

The Cowgirls almost evened the score in the second half at the 70th minute with a shot to the left side of the goal, laying Nevada goalie Kelsey Quintos out. She just made the save with enough hand on the ball to make a stop.

Wyoming had no corner kicks the entire game but Nevada had four kicks that went uncapitalized on.

Cowgirls soccer will return to the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex this weekend to face the Boise State Broncos and the Utah State Aggies.

“We are excited to play at home,” Cowgirls soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado told gowyo.com. “There is never an easy game at conference. Boise State and Utah State are good teams, so we know that we are going to have our hands full.”

Boise State is currently sitting at 4-4-0 in conference action and 6-8-3 overall. The Cowgirls lead the series against the Broncos 6-3-1, but are tied in the series 3-3 since the Broncos joined the Mountain West.

With a win over the Broncos and the Aggies, the Cowgirls look to jump into the top six teams in the Mountain West and move onto the Mountain West Tournament.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday against Boise State and Sunday at 1 p.m. against Utah State.
