Laramie woman pleads not guilty

A Laramie resident pleaded not guilty in Albany County District Court after being accused of endangering her child with meth amphetamine.

Rita Koval was arrested and charged with child endangerment after officers searched her trailer and found a small glass pipe with suspected meth residue in her bedroom.

According to court documents, Koval’s bedroom was conjoined with the bedroom of her youngest child of two years

According to court documents, officers were dispatched to Ivinson Memorial hospital after the hospital sent reports of a woman who told staff she had smoked meth in front of her three children at home.

Officers interviewed Koval at the hospital, who said she had smoked meth multiple times in her bedroom while her children were home.

Koval also said she threw the pipe she used to smoke meth along with the rest of the meth she had purchased in the toilet and attempted to flush it before going to the hospital.

Koval told officers she believed she had purchased roughly $40 worth of meth. She told officers she had not slept in almost three days which is why she came to the hospital in the first place.

Officers recived permission from Koval to search her home and vehicle, which led to the eventual discovery of the pipe.

Koval’s two older children were taken by representatives of Big Brothers, Big Sisters while the youngest was taken in by her grandmother.

Currently out on bond, Koval’s trial is set for late November 2017.
