Vicki Henry resigns from city council

Vicki Henry studied at the University of Wyoming from 1994 to 2016 and majored in Geography.
Henry was a respected member of the city council Ward One from January 2013 to October 2017, according to the city council spokesperson.

“I ran for City Council, Ward One, because I want to be involved at a higher level of policy-making and decisions to make Laramie the best city in Wyoming,” Henry stated on her webpage.

Henry is also one of the first women to vote with the LGBTQ plus anti-discrimination law.

According to a Star Tribune article, Councilwoman Vicki Henry said Laramie has a reputation for being unkind to gay and transgender people.

“Whether that is correct or incorrect, that is still the reputation,” she said. “Let’s right that wrong.”

Another one of her achievements include being a member of the Laramie Planning Commission for over six years, which has given her insight and knowledge of how the city operates. She helped develop the Laramie Comprehensive Plan and the new Unified Development Code, as stated by Henry on her web page.

“City Council consists of nine members who serve overlapping four-year terms. They are elected from three wards, with three members from each ward. As members come up for re-election, the ward positions will be filled. The mayor and the vice-mayor are selected by the City Council every two years at the first council meeting in January,” the city council of Laramie states.

Henry won the primary election twice, and a lot are very sad to see her go.

“Sadly, Vicki is moving to Arizona due to some personal matters”, Bryan Shuster, a city council member, said.

“Mrs. Henry resigned to care for a family member out of state. She would have liked to stay as a council member but felt she was needed to care for her family member at this time,” Pat Gabriel, said.

Consequently, the City Council is now searching for a new member suitable for the position and has opened up the applications.
