UW men’s hockey heat up the ice in California

The University of Wyoming Men’s Hockey team traveled to California this past weekend to match up against California State Fullerton and California State Northridge.

UW’s Men’s Hockey Team had a successful performance ending with a 3-0 record for the weekend with two wins against California State Northridge and their third win against California State Fullerton.

The last time that Wyoming played California they conceived to a shutout at home, they were able to reverse those circumstances and take the wins back from them on the road.

“It was an overall successful win, I am proud of them for being able to play three games over the weekend while traveling early and playing late, its even better coming out with three wins over great teams.” Head Coach for University of Wyoming Hockey Team, Scott Wiseman.

The first game that Wyoming played occurred on Thursday, Oct. 26 at approximately 10:30 against Fullerton after departing from DIA at 9 a.m.

Wyoming saw the back of the goal 6 times by; Dan Franks (2), Eric Tomasello, Alec Macdougall, Ian Johnson, and Tyler Johnson against Fullerton’s four times, ending the first game in a 6-4 victory.

Friday, Oct. 27, Wyoming defeated Northridge 5-2 seeing goals from; Dan Franks, Blake Baer (2), Campbell Mackay, and Brandon Dewar. Player of the game was first time starter, Jacob Brock as goalkeeper.

The last and final game of the weekend was played on Saturday, Oct. 28, with the second win over Northridge and third win on the overall weekend.

Wyoming dominated Northridge once again in a 5-4 victory seeing goals from; Tyler Johnson, Trent Sparrow, Jacob Link, Mark Kunitz, and Dan Franks. The player of the game went to Dan Franks for scoring the game winning goal to obtain an undefeated weekend for Wyoming.

Dan Franks had an impressive weekend of goals leading the team for the weekend with 4 goals.

It was a great weekend for the team on and off the ice. Everyone really came together and it showed in our play. Those three wins show that we can succeed against teams in other parts

of the country that are outside our conference. It will reflect when the rankings come out Nov. 8,” said president and assistant captain of the hockey team, Eric Tomasello.

Wyoming is restless and ready to take on their next opponents this weekend starting with CSU in Colorado on Friday, Nov. 3.

Saturday, Nov. 4, Wyoming will host Brigham Young University at 1 p.m. Come and support your UW Men’s Hockey Team this weekend.
