Cowgirls swimming falls short to Bears

This Fridays swim meet saw a change of venue for the Wyoming Cowgirls, as it took place at the Corbett pool instead of the usual Laramie High School pool. Wyoming swam against the University of Northern Colorado Bears.

The first part of thee meet went in favor of the Cowgirls with the score heading into the diving break being 63 to 49 in favor of Wyoming. Today’s meet had a unique event in the 1650-yard freestyle, which is just under an entire mile.

The Cowgirls were able to keep their lead after the dive break with diver Karla Contreras posting scores consistently around the 8- mark.

The last half of the meet saw a turn in the Cowgirls luck. It started off with the 200-yard butterfly, which was taken by Bears swimmer Petra Kis in a time of 2:10.50.

Wyoming was able to answer this Northern Colorado win by placing first in both heats of the following event, the 100-yard freestyle. Isobel Ryan won the first heat in a time of 53.85, and Hannah Mclean- Leonard won the second heat with a time of 53.12.

The bears took first in the final four events of the meet. They won the 200-yard backstroke with Ionna Sacha getting a time of 2:02.36, the 500-yard freestyle with Katie Stover in a time of 5:15.40, the 200-yard breaststroke with Kis finishing in a time of 2:25.14, and finally the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.99.

The final score of the meet was 126 to 117 with Northern Colorado coming out on top. The next Cowgirl swimming and diving event is the Missouri invite on Nov. 16.
